Body Condition Score Guide (Cats)

Understanding your cat’s body condition is crucial for proper nutrition management. Use this guide to assess body condition:

BCS 1-2: Too Thin

Ribs, spine, and pelvic bones easily visible. Severe abdominal tuck. No palpable fat.

BCS 3-4: Underweight

Ribs easily palpable with minimal fat cover. Noticeable waist. Abdominal tuck present.

BCS 5: Ideal

Ribs palpable with slight fat cover. Waist visible behind ribs. Minimal abdominal fat pad.

BCS 6-7: Overweight

Ribs difficult to palpate under moderate fat. Waist barely visible. Rounded abdomen.

BCS 8-9: Obese

Ribs not palpable under heavy fat cover. Waist absent. Prominent abdominal distention.
